By 1892, a giddily consumerist, venomously partisan Gilded Age society had gotten good at churning out campaign tchotchkes. The 1892 election marked Cleveland and Harrison’s second contest against each other. The repeated, deadening matchups of Cleveland and Harrison in 1888 and 1892 did just that. There are other rematches in American presidential history, but 1892 was the only time a sitting president lost re-election, ran four years later against his vanquisher, and won. That weird race has a message for all those planning to hit snooze on the coming campaign: Great political change can unfold when the system seems woefully stalled.

Josh Shapiro has a new slogan for how he wants to run Pennsylvania — and it's not fit for kids' ears. “There’s children here, so we’ll just say ‘stuff.’”That was the G-rated version of the line he’s been delivering in recent months. According to Merriam-Webster, the word of 2023 is “authentic.” And unlike the dictionary’s last few choices, it’s plagued by contradictions. As Buzzfeed and other outlets made very clear, she was the down-to-earth embodiment of the “cool girl” persona first popularized by Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel, “Gone Girl,” a riotous, happy-go-lucky sex symbol. Almost overnight, the “cool girl” aura she epitomized was recast. Online, our miniature social media platforms take cues from celebrities’ mega ones. Should we even post about our mental health on social media, if we wouldn’t be comfortable telling our boss about it in person?

One of the most sought-after items was a 40-ounce red Stanley tumbler that sold for $49.95. "The Starbucks x Stanley quencher is a limited supply item, so some stores may have already sold out," a Starbucks spokesperson told Insider. The wife of Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., has received anonymous, threatening text messages this week pressuring her to persuade her husband to support Jordan. Rep. Rep. Don Bacon told reporters that he would "love" to remove Gaetz from the House GOP caucus. Many House GOP members were not happy about it, some going so far as to come after Gaetz's place in the party caucus. In an op-ed to the Post, former GOP Representative and Speaker Newt Gingrich also called on House Republicans to remove Gaetz. As for what Gaetz feels about it all, he told the Post that Republicans should let him know "when they have the votes" to expel him.
